When you see a long row of taxis parked on the road, what is the first thought that comes to your mind?
Well, these are yellow-black-taxis waiting for their turn to pick up their passengers from international airport. You will be surprised to know that taxis will be waiting in queue for more than two days(sometimes) for their turn before they reach their pre-paid passenger ( You know now, why they are grumpy when they have a short-distance-client) I have not yet figured it out whether it is worth waiting in queue for so long..
Anyways, in Mumbai if you need to hail a taxi, make sure that you are on the right side of the road, because taxi drivers do not like to take a u-turn to reach to your destination, they decide the directions they wish to go and you might have to cross the road to be on the correct side of the road. This is the rule followed by every yellow-and-black taxi.
But if you need a taxi at your door you can book a taxi online or simply call thirty minutes before you are ready to take your journey because besides yellow-and-black cabs there are many more car rental services that offer taxi services at your doorstep, such as cool cabs which are light blue color, their services include airport pick-up, intercity tours and out-station trip and they charge by kilometer/per-hour rates
There are Meru cabs, which are metered call taxi service that provides modern, air conditioned taxis equipped with GPS/GPRS tracking and tamper proof meters.
There is also hi-fi taxi service for women-only, Forsche, that operates during night hours from 20:00 to 08:00 and it is fully equipped with facilities like nail polish remover, magazines for reading, to make the traveling on jammed Mumbai roads so much more comfortable.
And if you are not afraid of speed and are willing to go for a roller-coaster ride on the pot-holed Mumbai streets then, always opt for auto-rickshaw, which is a three-wheeler taxi service operating only in the suburbs. It is cheaper and adventurous with neither any doors, nor any seatbelts and you can even chat with the driver....

The name "Bombay" was derived from 'Bom Bahia' (The Good Bay),
.... a name given by Portuguese sailor Francis Almeida, in 1508 ....“Bounce back Mumbai” .....as it is called by the locals, it is a city that has been through a lot in the recent past – floods, bomb blasts, riots – and come out stronger each time.

Mumbai is a great place where all will love to travel but with that the traffic in Mumbai is unbearable. So to travel at any place in Mumbai there can't be anything better and comfortable than taxi.
lately I have discovered the AC buses in Mumbai to be the most comfortable mode of transport, yes, more comfortable than taxi too..for one it is spacious, there is good music, quite economical and not too crowded too...:))
